La La Mission

La La strives to be a friendly neighborhood spot with both sweet and savory items for all palates and dietary needs.

La La Ice Cream

La La is committed to making the best ice cream using the highest quality ingredients, locally sourced when possible. Low overrun and great ingredients make delicious, smooth, creamy custard style ice cream. Never overly sweet, but always flavor forward, La La offers 12 ice creams, and 5-7 non dairy flavors to choose from. Some rotating, some house staples.

All inclusions and variegates for ice cream are made in house including chocolate chips, almond brittle, toasted coconut, syrups, and sauces.

Mint Chip ice cream takes a pound of mint for each batch, it is soaked in the cream for 5 days, strained, churned, then the chocolate chips are added at the end.

An equal amount of care is taken for each flavor.

Made with love, one batch at a time.

Meet Jennifer,

Jennifer Lisburg started La La Homemade Ice Cream. La La was founded in 1993 in a storefront in South Minneapolis. La La went from big city to small town and back again, with a few breaks in between to raise a family of 4, making its official debut back to Minneapolis in 2016.

After serving ice cream, and other ice cream treats like floats and sundaes, baked goods and coffees, La La expanded to serving a small menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches, all from scratch, evolving into La La Homemade Ice Cream to & Luncheonette.

Jennifer has been in the food and beverage industry for most of her life. It supported her through getting a degree in art school, and continued while learning and mastering many positions in the field. From bartender in high volume bars, to server in 5 star restaurants, prep cook, line cook, to restaurant owner, it became part of her DNA. Hospitality is paramount at La La.

La La Uptown opened when Jennifer returned from NW Minnesota, giving up her 75 seat restaurant and attached banquet room- La La Ice Cream, Coffee, and Grill, happily returning to the city where La La began.

Sourced From the Best

The ingredients used are always thoughtfully selected for quality and locality. Rhubarb is harvested at a friend’s organic farm in northern Minnesota. We pick and visit for a few hours every May for about 150 lbs that are then cleaned, diced, portioned, and frozen for the year. It is then turned into ice cream, sorbet, pie, and sauce.

Strawberries are sourced at a farm in Foley, Minnesota. A few staff members and myself go very early in the morning at peak harvest time to pick approximately 200 lbs of strawberries and go through the same process of cleaning, portioning, etc as the rhubarb for the year.

Eggs, beef, and lamb are sourced for Unparalleled Farms in Plainview, Minnesota. A pasture raised organically fed farm.

Chickens are sourced from Hidden Stream Farm Elgin, MN (eggs also sourced here when Unparalleled eggs are unavailable)

Vegetables are organic whenever possible, local seasonally.

Honey is from Bare Honey, a Minneapolis organic honey company.
